Search Maldives is a small, independent travel desk in Malé. We’ve placed 2,114 trips since 2019, visited every property we’d send you to, and publish what we know — the good, the changed, the over-rated — without any input from a booking platform’s ranking algorithm.
Independent
We don’t accept rate kickbacks above standard agency commission. If a property offers us more, we disclose it on the dossier. The list is the list.
Field-checked
Every property in the ledger has been visited by someone on the desk in the last 24 months. We rebuild the dive calendar each February from operator reports and our own logs.
Specific
We answer the question we were actually asked. No funnelling everyone into the highest-margin pick. The right week often costs less than the average week.
Local
Malé-based, all team members from the islands. We know the dhoni captains, the guesthouse cooks, and which seaplane pilots will tell you the truth about the weather.

Builds the property ledger and runs the desk. Diver since 2008, fifteen-year resident of Malé. Believes a great trip starts with the right week, not the right resort.
Six years with the Manta Trust at Hanifaru. Writes our marine-life dossiers and rebuilds the dive calendar each February from operator reports and her own diving.
Travels the local-island circuit on a rolling six-month schedule. Has slept in 84 of the 162 inhabited islands with tourist infrastructure. Files the guesthouse trade-off pieces.
What we don’t do.
- We don’t list properties we wouldn’t personally book.
- We don’t bury the trade-offs to make a sale.
- We don’t accept fully-paid press trips.
- We don’t use AI-generated reviews. Every paragraph here is from someone who’s been there.
- We don’t sponsor the journal. There’s no “featured” placement to buy.
